Thank you SO much to the Guyett family for your very, very generous donation to the Prep iTime program. We were able to purchase all of these new and wonderful resources. The children have absolutely loved investigating and trying them out this week! Thank you Guyett family!
We are very fortunate to have access to so much technology in our school. This is a great tool in supporting the children’s learning and engaging them in a fun and interesting way.
The students use iPads to solve maths problems, practise skills, enhance their speaking and listening abilities, and to improve their reading and writing. In our Inquiry unit on Collaborating this term, the students are exploring how to use the school laptops: working together to discover how to open, turn on and log in to a laptop, as well as some basic Word skills. Our Interactive Whiteboards are used in many ways. We are able to AirPlay our teacher iPads up onto the big screen to show examples, and model new strategies in all areas. We are able to access educational videos to learn how to research new topics. Currently we are investigating Fairytales. Having access to stories online, means that we can talk about different versions of familiar stories, as well as explore character voice and plot lines. This is in addition to reading print versions of the stories. Teachers may use online stories as a starting point for a Literacy lesson, and oral discussions and roleplaying. The use of technology is of course always balanced out with traditional methods of teaching and learning, but can offer new ways of learning that are unavailable otherwise. More information about technology can be found on our school website: School Profile>Policies>Digitial Technologies Water SafetyToday all Prep students had a water safety information session at school. They learnt all about how to be SUPER safe at the beach and pool in summer. We learnt lots of wonderful and useful information.
This week in MATHS we are learning all about measuring. We have had heaps of fun measuring Hansel and Gretels Pathway back home. We used our bodies, string, feet, trundle wheels and rulers to measure how long the pathway was. Here are some photos of us in action...
number We are SO excited that this year Prep-2 are involved in our school house athletics day. On the day students in Prep will be involved in a number of rotations of athletic activities and will be given a chance to compete in some running races on the track! On the day all students are to come dress in a house coloured Tee-shirt and their blue school uniform shorts. In preparation for this please logon to compass to see your students house. Below are the colours of all the houses. Students will need to bring a packed lunch and plenty of snacks as they will be doing lots of exercise! Please make sure your student also comes to school with a full drink bottle of water. We look forward to seeing all students wear a tee-shirt of their house! It makes the day a lot of fun to be in the team uniform! Any questions please do not hesitate to ask your classroom teacher. Don't forget to consent and pay for the house athletics on compass. Happy running, jumping and throwing! Read- RED Aumann- BLUE Chivers- GREEN Unwin - YELLOW YAY!! Preps are now able to borrow two books from the library. This week you may see your child bring more than one book home from the library. Please make sure that you return both books in a weeks time.
Happy Reading!!! Next week in Positive Education in Prep we are learning about nutrition. We are focusing on the healthy food wheel. The students are going to create their own. It would be wonderful if you could continue the learning at home and have a chat about the two wheels. Below is some information about it.
The food wheel is a wheel shaped guide of healthy foods divided into sections to show the recommended intake for each food group.
FOUNDATION AND GRADE 5 BUDDY PROGRAM
The Preps along with their buddies are participating in the Heart Foundation Jump Rope for Heart program and we would love your support! Over the next few weeks, your child will be learning a range of fun skipping skills and new tricks. This is a great program and encourages children to get involved in our community and support Australia’s leading heart health charity, the Heart Foundation. The Jump Rope team provides us with lots of resources and support to implement the program and in return we ask that students help by seeking sponsorship for their involvement. Please support us by sponsoring your child. Click on the link below to register and to begin fundraising. https://jumprope.heartfoundation.org At the end of the term, we will be holding a 'Skip Off', so please encourage your child to practise skipping at home if they own a skipping rope. This will be held in the last couple of weeks of term. Thank you in advance for your support. Dress like you are 100 years old! Our students will celebrate the 100th day of school on Friday 10th August. It is an exciting milestone and we are planning many different activities for the students to enjoy around the number 100. We record these results in the classroom every week and we hope by the end of the term all lunch boxes that are brought to school have NO waste in them. This will ensure our school grounds are free from waste in the yard. Please see below some WONDERFUL waste free lunch boxes that were brought to school today. Well done to those children who brought no waste today!! |
