This term we will continue to develop reading skills through the use of stories and fairy tales. Children will engage with classic stories that provide wonderful opportunities to role play favourite characters and create their own endings to well known fairy tales. The students will be asked to step into the shoes of many characters and begin to think a little bit deeper about the story and the authors intention..
Writing
Our writing program will be moving towards developing both narrative and recount writing. The students will use characters chosen from familiar stories and recreate their own version with a 'happily ever after' ending. Our language experience program such as making shortbread houses and Foundation Camp will provide wonderful opportunities for the students to reflect on highlights and write about memorable experiences. Over the term the children will be encouraged to develop their independent writing skills by constructing their own sentences and taking risks at spelling new words All writing sessions are about building the students confidence to 'have a go". and offering lots of encouragement. Mistakes are ok and seen as an important part of all students writing development.
