The expectation for Foundation homework is that your child reads every night. They may like to read their home reading book, their library book, a book from home or use the Reading Eggs program. They should also be regularly learning and revising the Magic 100 Words.
Some guidelines to follow when your child tries to read for themselves:
- NEVER cover the pictures. Your child is being taught to look at the pictures to get a clue about the writing. - Encourage them to show you where to start reading. Beginning readers are learning that the picture gives us a clue, but the writing is what we say. - Encourage your child to follow the text from the left to the right, across each line. - ALWAYS praise them for their attempts, even if they are not quite right the first time. - ALWAYS make your reading time together stress-free, fun and exciting so they want to do it EVERY day. - Pick your time. For some, after school or before bed is ideal, for others, mornings might be best. If they are too tired, simply read to them that night or maybe even skip reading for that day. Remember - keep it positive!

Term 4
Week 1 and 2 This fortnight in maths the students are learning about
sharing in practical situations. To continue the learning at home we ask that
whilst having afternoon tea or dinner you ask your child to share the food
equally amongst all family members. For example cut up some watermelon and they
must share it equally amongst all family members.
To extend this learning have your child draw and model the
following scenarios
1.A monkey had 10 bananas that he needed to share
between himself and his friend
(Draw the monkey sharing the bananas)
2.A mum had to share 12 apples with her 3 children
(Drawn the three children and how many
apples each child receives)
3.A dad has 15 chocolate bars that he has to share
between 5 children
(Draw 5 children and how many chocolate bars
each child receives)
