Please remember to return the wooden board when you have eaten your shortbread houses.
Wow! What a fabulous experience the Preps had when making their Hansel and Gretel shortbread houses. The children were very enthusiastic and extremely creative with their houses. A very big thank you to Robyn, our local 'Pie Lady', whose hard work is always greatly appreciated. Thank you also to the team of mums who assisted with the preparation and their help on the day.
Please remember to return the wooden board when you have eaten your shortbread houses. This Thursday, the Preps will receive a visit from our local firefighters. This program helps children develop a basic understanding of fire safety. Over two school visits, firefighters will address the following key areas:
We have asked the Preps to learn their address and phone numbers, with your help of course, and are enjoying a lot of role playing at school to assist them with this. We are all very excited about our swimming lessons which will start on Monday 26th October. We ask that you encourage the children to practise drying themselves at home and to have a go at putting all of their things in their swimming bag. We will be making mini paper swimming bags at school later this week to put on your fridge at home. We encourage you to help your child to look at all the things needed and to help to get their swimming bag ready each day. On Monday 26th October, your child needs to bring their normal school bag with their lunch and satchel AND a separate swimming bag with their towel, goggles, etc. inside. The children will change out of their school shoes at school and wear their thongs or Crocs. A normal snack and lunch is needed each swimming day, with possibly one extra snack as we find the children are often hungry after their lesson. No food will be taken to the pool. We request that children wear their bathers to school and suggest that if girls are wearing one piece bathers, they have them rolled down for the school day under their uniform. The swimming teachers encourage boys to wear Speedo type bathers if you have them, rather than boardies, if possible. Please name EVERYTHING – including shoes. Swimming caps will be kept here at school and will be given to the children on Monday before their lesson. You are welcome to come and watch your child’s lesson but your child must return to school on the bus. ½ Prep F and Prep M’s lesson will be at 1.15 – 2.00pm and the other ½ of Prep F and Prep P’s lesson will be at 2.00 – 2.45pm. Payment and permission notices for swimming lessons are due tomorrow, MONDAY 19TH OCTOBER. In Prep this week we used a classic fairy tale 'The Gingerbread Man' to develop counting skills. In the activity we had to find out how many counters it would take to cover the outline of a gingerbread man. We found it a bit tricky counting so many counters and we enjoyed the challenge of using a one to one counting strategy to find our answer. We then had to record our answer in a table. Check out our photos below to see what we did ! Term 4 marks the start of our Sun Smart policy, so children need to wear their orange Prep hat when playing outside in the playground.
Remember our rule: NO hat, NO play, No fun today! |
