We are very fortunate to have access to so much technology in our school. This is a great tool in supporting the children’s learning and engaging them in a fun and interesting way.
The students use iPads to solve maths problems, practise skills, enhance their speaking and listening abilities, and to improve their reading and writing.
In our Inquiry unit on Collaborating this term, the students are exploring how to use the school laptops: working together to discover how to open, turn on and log in to a laptop, as well as some basic Word skills.
Our Interactive Whiteboards are used in many ways. We are able to AirPlay our teacher iPads up onto the big screen to show examples, and model new strategies in all areas. We are able to access educational videos to learn how to research new topics.
Currently we are investigating Fairytales. Having access to stories online, means that we can talk about different versions of familiar stories, as well as explore character voice and plot lines. This is in addition to reading print versions of the stories. Teachers may use online stories as a starting point for a Literacy lesson, and oral discussions and roleplaying.
The use of technology is of course always balanced out with traditional methods of teaching and learning, but can offer new ways of learning that are unavailable otherwise. More information about technology can be found on our school website: School Profile>Policies>Digitial Technologies
